Top 5 Ways To Better Gas Mileage "Top Secret"

Being a car guy, a lot of my friends ask me how to get better gas mileage. I am sure there are more than 5 things but I usually suggest the following:

1. Tire Pressure - Common sense - underinflated tires create more drag and resistance on the  road. So try a PSI or two above the manufacturer's recommendation.

2. Speed Limit - This one doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out but keeping the car at the speed limit will keep your fuel costs in check. Let's do the math on this one

Lead Foot = Faster speeds = Higher Engine RPMs =  MORE GAS = MORE $$$$

3. Tune up - I have way too many friends who neglect their vehicles. Spending an extra $10-$25 on a new air and fuel filter will do wonders for your fuel economy. Quit being cheap and get your car fixed already!

4. Check the Junk in the Trunk - I know you don't want me to break out my math skills again. Lighten your load and clean out the cargo areas in your vehicle. Less weight means more money in your pocket.

5. Downgrade - For those who are driving a Hummer, Suburban, Yukon, or Escalade and are whining about gas prices, go trade in your SUV for a Smart car or Yaris. I have no sympathy for SUV drivers who complain about gas prices.
